So no clue to engine failure, oil intact, any codes, did it smoke first, MIL light come on, it must have just been serviced judging by the mileage. We are interested to find out as it seems rareish, haven't been many reports of total engine failure. Been a few but then again we don't get reports of non failure.

Oh Hello by the way. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Nice to know you can get hold of them for that price.

I know of one that blew up at 60,000 miles on an 09 model. The owner repeatedly complained from the outset that it sounded rough but they wouldn't do anything about it. Luckily he does 80,000 a year hard towing so it blue up within the first year of warranty and they put in a new one which has been fine and now on 160,000 Thumbs Up The reason he chose a TDCi apart from loving Defenders is that they were the only company that offered a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty (used to use a TD5 which did 250,000 hard towing and was still going strong when he traded up!)

If it's been serviced correctly surely they should replace the engine for you Rolling Eyes

Mine died at 26thou when stripped they found the oil pump relief valve had jammed and pumped every thing full of oil, engine hydraulic locked big clatter stopped dead on the A303 very early one morning. But i was fully under warrenty no issues apart from the time it took them to sort, Enterprise had me in a Censored Transit for 4 weeks.
Over 175thou heavy towing all the time and still going strong. Transmission is getting a bit slack now but to be expected. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

80thou a year i thought i was always at the wheel doing 50thou a year but my TD5 before this did not do very well at all W reg constant head and head gasket problems, constant hi speed towing killed it. The 6 speed box of the Puma is what saves the engine i think, also the speed limiter helps stops me thrashing it for hours on end on the motorway. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

There are often engines comming up on ebay there is an engine/box and bulkead complete on there now, also some specialists have them, I think JE engineering had a few new ones from V6 conversions they were doing. still a big hole in anyones pocket though. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Friend of mine in Namibia also thought his engine had gone bang - the noise was so bad when it happened that he thought it had thrown a piston or 2!

When they stripped the engine he convinced LR Windhoek to test the injectors and it turned out all 4 had failed, rest of the engine was fine.

Could be a possibility? --
