I cracked one driving across the Gobi Desert on a rock. We had a diff guard one but it was one of the round style types and I'm sure it just transferred the shock straight onto the weld on the diff pan.
Limped on to the nearest settlement where we found a guy with a ancient welding unit. He clipped the crocodile leads onto the overhead cables running through the village, had a another sip of vodka and crawled underneath do to the biz.
The vehicle has just been sold 20 years later out there and I'm sure its got the same axle on it
