Interesting idea with the handrail on the roofrack/ladder. The transition between the two is one I always think is the place where the vehicle will kill me.

Luckily you can usually see pretty early, if there's oncoming traffic and you can stop on some wider parts of the road. Otherwise one of you has to reverse. Not always that fun, but managable.
It makes the transition from ladder to roofrack a lot easier, but it also adds about 30cm of height to the vehicle, which means you can't go into a lot of (underground) parking garages and stuff. I'm not sure I'm going to keep it like this... |
