Mine developed a rattle this Morning from the rear door.
Solution: remove the golf ball I found my son had left in the door pocket! All cars have issues. Some more than others - which is why we have warranties. Generally the warranty period is as long as the first owner's experience of the car. If you own it from new, expect some issues but that they won't cost you anything (other than inconvenience) to resolve. Having owned MANY from new, I'd say LR is worse than they should be for quality (Freelander 2 aside, which is bomb proof). Some of it is irritating because the issues just shouldn't be there; some you can rectify yourself with the help of an enthusiastic owner community and some of it you just put up with - as long as you go in eyes open. If QA is something that you're going to obsess over - understandable, given you're spending a lot of money - buy a Toyota. If you're a bit more relaxed, enjoy your Land Rover, use it and abuse it, use the warranty cover and immerse yourself in the things you can do yourself. I've already taken more bits apart on my New Defender than I did on either of my previous Discoveries - just because I feel I can. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

I'm surprise any of the manufacturers has anything more than 50%!
The only car I've ever owned from new that didn't have a fault was a Volvo C30. Nearly new Fiesta was good back in the 90s. The list of shame (excluding my 3 Defenders, all with rust): VW Gold Mk VI: badly fitted rear door, faulty wipers, mad headlights Mercedes A Class (current model): more rattles than a dealership of Land Rovers BMW X1 (last model, current car): problem with rear door needing a respray. Other than that, it's a great car. For nearly new: Golf Mk V: head gasket Golf Mk IV: something odd that was never serviced but managed to destroy the engine Ford Escort: never started in cold. Spent 12 months of our 18 month ownership in the dealers. Also needed from seats replacing |
