Mods, gear and spares for a coast to coast trip
Just booked to do C2C from robin hoods bay to st bees in next March, so lanes on the moors, dales and lakes. The 90 copes just fine with the North Yorkshire moors lanes, have fox 2.0 and eibach suspension, remap etc but are there any other essential mods? What would the collective recommend in terms of spares to carry, and any other recommendations for kit?

Cheers
Col

A set of hedge lopers and a small bow saw or a pruning saw to preserve your lovely Loire Blue paint from overgrown hedges and brambles. A decent shovel too that early in the year to fill in washouts or clear tracks of land slip rubble or snow Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Cheers Tim, good point but I fear there maybe a few more fun stripes after the trip!! I’ll definitely have the saw and loppers in though!

Ah, looked at their stuff a few times. A friend (Julian - Black Jeep) has done a few stuff with them.

Once I get mine sorted I will be doing some stuff with them.

Be interested to hear any feedback?. Rgds.

I met Julian a few weeks back on their charity jamboree! I followed him for the day. Nice bloke, obviously slightly weird as he thought his jeep was better than a landy, but I can forgive him!

Easy routes. But incase all goes wrong check you have suitable recovery points. Other than that a standard Land Rover will be fine, your with a group so can rely on each other for help if required.
Comfort thing a fridge for cold beer?

Oh maybe a set of wheel bearings and a prop uj? Otherwise everything else can be brought on the way if really needed

A suitable tow rope and 2 shackles. Soft shackles are safer.
It's good etiquette to carry your own, rather than rely on others to provide basic recovery equipment.

A basic tool kit and your on road recovery policy card, to make sure you get home in case of mechanical problems or breakdown. Zip ties, hose clamps and duct tape can often save the day with a bit of improvisation. Electrical wire and a few crimp connectors can bypass a melted headlight switch and make other repairs.

Beyond that nothing is essential. All greenlanes in England can be driven in a standard Defender, without any special preparation.

Diff guards are the only thing I would add for the more difficult lanes, particularly on the front axle. A big rock can easily damage the diff cover.

Slightly controversial. Diff guards should be wholly unnecessary outside of competition use, learn to drive properly off-road instead.

If you're driving a TDCi and spending money on any underside protection a fuel cooler guard would be a better investment, it is not unknown for stones etc to flick up and damage it or the fuel and/or coolant connections.
