I’ve done almost every major Alpine climb or col at some point over the years, and it is frankly awe inspiring when you see them going up some of them at 20-30kmh. I’m normally floating around low double (or even single) digits.
Chris Froome won the stage that finished on the hill in my town, (Bettex in Saint Gervais Mt Blanc), the summit of which is just 9km from my house. The official TdF climb is a 10k Cat 1 averaging 8% and starting with a 3km section averaging 12% and peaking at 13%. Fresh from the house, with a 7km downhill/flat warm up, I’m looking at 1h 15m as my fastest. Chris Froome, having already covered 136km and completed 5 climbs at +3300m (including a +1000m HC) he completed the same climb in 27min. It takes 15-20min just to drive it. Monsieur Le Grenadier
I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....
