I have seen them on a metal A bar as there is a good earth.
However, when I used to marshal at events in the past, if anyone was running a wip style aerial that could be a danger to a member of the public, we asked that it be removed. Off-road the aerial will wip left and right to the vehicle, so could hurt someone standing to the side. The Aussie โstyleโ of aerials are solid. I have mine mounted on the rear roof panel below the top of the roof (and cage), depending on the event I would either use a 4ft wip aerial or a 7inch rubber aerial which does not get hung up when green laning. Www.4x4cb.com PCM 1 Mount, I also added an additional wire to the chassis to improve the earth. Good luck |

i have tried various mounts over the years and in the end succumbed to the fact that drilling a hole was the only realistic way of body mounting one securely. i use one with a separate earth, reception/transmission has always been good.

I have a 1.5m stainless steel whip at the minute and it does spring about all over the place. I could go for something a bit shorter and without a sprung base maybe. The PSM mount is not for me as I made a promise to myself not to put any more holes in the car. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

There is no reason why a gutter mount coudn't work, but the two commonly available ones (have had both) have a couple of stupid design flaws which renders them insecure and/or unable to be used properly on a Defender. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Presumably, you take the cable in through the rear door seal? If so, I have seen an aerial mounted on a bracket that picks up on the two bodyside bolts for the top hinge of the rear door. Just a piece of angle really, trimmed to fit around the hinge and with a hole in for the aerial mount. Darren

The cable goes out through an unused grommet in the bulkhead then up the snorkel. Thatโs why I was thinking it would be an easy relocate to the front. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

๐๐ป There are different sizes available for different size round tube, very secure and good looking.
Stainless bolts could be better quality but arenโt really pricey so no complaint from me. No Guts, No Glory.

Only thing I can think of youโd have to be careful of with the windscreen block mount is clearance and flex. I expect that would clear it though so long as the Antenna spring isnโt gigantic. No Guts, No Glory.

Click image to enlarge I've run an antenna on an A bar. After a while you don't notice it is there really. There is a little 1/4 wave placeholder there most of the time, Oddroad I use a 'Modulator' antenna as it has enough spring not to snapped by trees but not mobile enough like a orbitor to flail about and hit the bonnet. On road I use a top loaded antenna, for best range I have a 4ft 'Firestick' which seems to perform well enough. A mini DV mount means the cable is small enough to pass through to the front too.
