Hi
We took the P300 out last Saturday. Had the choice to take the 240 but as my wife has that engine in her Velar and the fact that I have not driven a petrol Defender since my V8 we had to give it a go. May as well say this part first the fuel consumption was 23.9 for the time we had it. Better than I thought but not when you are used to diesel. That would be our only negative . The positives Very quiet Very smooth Accelerates well, maybe not with the same starting torque of a diesel Works really well with the gear box in both high and low range In low range, mud and ruts selected feet of the pedals it just crawled along unlike the last petrol manual I drove which felt like it needed the extra revs or it would stall. The last petrol automatic I drove was a Q7 in the US and that was ok but felt a little gutless, this was fun, but then trying a new car is always fun No Ad Blue to worry about No idea about servicing costs No idea about towing Hope that helps. Driving wise it would be easy to live with, peaceful ( compared to my TD5, even my wife’s Velar was noisier), relaxing, comfortable, practical. The only thing that only you can answer is are you happy to fill it more often.. Enjoy the experience |

I had a test drive in a P300 a couple of weeks ago and agree with markb110’s comments. It was surprisingly smooth and quiet - the engine had plenty of power and suited the car. The potential downside is the fuel consumption. 2005 Defender 90 TD5

I have a P300 SE. I’ve done 700 miles so far with it. Mines is a 7 seat with Goodyear duratrac tyres on 20” wheels. The engine is very refined and quiet. Pulling power is very good. I’m getting avg 27mpg on the Goodyears and was getting 30mpg on the Pirelli Scorpion all-seasons.

thanks for the replys.
So had my 24hour test drive and put on just over 100miles in that time. I was lucky enough to get longer with the car then the standard 3hours. really enjoyed it. Agree with all said above. Few issues I didn't like, Cold starts sounded very rough and when cold going into drive made a loud bang.. after this it was fine. don't know if it was just my version with this but person collecting car was not sure Also radio never worked, no audio. apparently there is some issues with he radios ? It was the P300 SE with black pack. Not sure if will go ahead with getting one, also was not 100% happy with how boot opens aswell can think would be issue in parking lots as quite like how my current Range Rover with split tailgate. may upgrade to a newer Range Rover. the other half wanted to have it straight away though but as I do 99% driving will have a good think about next purchase. Its was goo fun though and seems to get a lot of attention, had lots people asking questions about it when parking. over the 100 ish miles, got 21.3mpg but I do tend to have a heavy foot. When cold starting the engine does seem to go to an abnormally high idle, like 1500rpm for the first 15 seconds and then settle down to 800 or so. But it never sounds rough. Also I've never experienced a loud bang going into drive when cold. Again, on the radio front, there have been updates to the PiviPro system. On my car it's been faultless. The only issue I have is that the Tunein and Spotify Live Apps disappear and reappear randomly. But all 'traditional' elements of the PiviPro system such as CarPlay, Nav, DAB radio, Bluetooth playback etc are faultless. I also have the Wifi Hotspot option and that's been fine too. ---- 2020 Land Rover Defender 110 P300 SE 7 seat (current) 1984 Land Rover Series III 88” Hard Top (current) Previously: 2001 Land Rover Defender 110 TD5 Station Wagon (gone) 2001 Range Rover HSE 4.0 V8 P38 (gone) 2014 Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 (gone) 2009 Land Rover Discovery 3 2.7 TDV6 (gone) 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport SD4 240 HSE (gone) |
