Chassis number diagnostics!
The rebuild (see separate thread) on my Td5 is progressing slowly but surely. I'm about to order a Shielder Bulkhead, and that will get things moving again.

How does one work things out from the VIN number of the vehicle? I've seen people on here make various deductions from them - is there a database somewhere?

Is there any negative to me posting mine on here for info (security wise)?

Ta!

Well that's probably where my website comes in: https://www.lrworkshop.com

If you create an account and login, at the top of every diagram page there is a "Load your vehicle" button where you can put in your VIN and it will highlight the parts applicable for your vehicle. It's not perfect, as the info from LR is sometimes contradictory and some vehicles have parts outside of the ranges displayed for the VIN, but it's suitable for most situations.

People don't tend to post their VINs but they're more accessible than people think. The DVLA gives all UK VINs away for free to selected companies, who then charge the public to access that data. LR Workshop

As well as Will's excellent site Jimbo, there are plenty of 'decoder' sites out there, such as:

https://www.firstfour.co.uk/land-rover-vin/

where you can decode it yourself. 2005 Td5 90 XS
