Interesting people saying that the new D200 defender feels underpowered when towing. My 130HP TD5, while no race car, does OK even with 3T on the back!

Granted it was a 6 cylinder but my D3 with 190hp wasn’t too shabby at towing.

I think people's expectations have changed. People expect cars to tow like there's nothing on the back these days, which is why so many caravans end up smashed to matchwood on the M5 every summer 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

3 miles per US Gallon in a 21st Century car.................amazed you don’t destroy the Cat pouring that much petrol through the engine. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Be fair. 3.8mpg (US) and on an 8mile climb with 3400kg of trailer behind. It's atrocious, but I can't say I'd expect many vehicles to do better, especially not powerful petrol ones.

It will be interesting to see which tune of 3.0ltr straight 6 they fit - the D350 in the Sport pumps out 350hp and 700nm of torque and IIRC it’s a “Federalised” engine that can be used in the USA. D240 is very nice but 350hp/70nm........... wouldn’t say no but i bet it will come with huge sticker price I’d imagine - RRS HST with it starts at £86000 with out any options Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

It’s a good point. I still tow with my Puma Defender but I don’t expect much pace - and I’m not disappointed 👍 I think my point is in comparison with other vehicles in LR range, the D200 will be working pretty hard. Similar to the old Defender, pulling up an incline with a heavy load behind is slow work (long hills and on-ramps). Whereas my D5 had plenty of grunt and would make a respectable pace, the D240 Defender struggles to build much pace. Fine for me but probably frustrating for those behind me. Still better than my other Defender, though, which would be labouring away at 35mph in 3rd or 4th. My conclusion (personal opinion for personal circumstances) is that the D240 is perfectly good for what I require and the way I drive. In normal driving conditions, it drives like a decent SUV and it tows solidly. I’d probably be looking for more grunt from a D200 and I’m sure the Petrol engines do a fine job. What sort of weights do you tow with your new Defender and what type of towbar did you go for?
