I was there in February and where the explosion appeared to be is on the edge of the container terminal. The video on the BBC evening news made it look like a nuclear explosion in the first seconds...........

When I heard about the explosion I first thought that there had been a huge dust explosion in the grain silos in the port. For sure one silo is partly destroyed but I wonder if one explosion in them set off the ammonium nitrate or vice verse

The video on the BBC this morning is quite something for a peace time explosion. Horrible to watch.

There are reports that the grain in those silos is unusable now which could cause shortages.

It seems that their economy has collapsed previously to this and this will make any recovery and rebuilding extremely difficult.

You have got to feel for these people. Many homes destroyed and nowhere to go. Death toll will no doubt rise throughout the day.

It is reported that the Ammonia Nitrate was seized from a ship some years ago.

I remember I hated working on a ICI plant the produced the stuff as an apprentice engineer, worked on edge all he time. ICI provided all clothing including skivvies, 100% cotton, leather boots. All the tools on the plant had to be non sparking.

A door slammed in the office one morning and everyone ran off the plant and didn't stop till we were off the main site. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.
