When my 2.2 left me stranded (luckily I was not too far from home) I suspected the problem to be an immobilizer issue. But you already figured out that F4 is for immobilizer. 30A is quite a current, so without having an electrical manual, I suspect it is feeding a few components. I would check the cables between doors and bulkhead, and B post if you have a 110. Remember to check rear door too. Try to uncover the rubber boot around the cables, see if you have any chafing. Check also if the fuse blows with all doors open, vs the doors closed. If fuse does not blow, close doors one by one until you find the culprit.

Thanks... the immobiliser is deactivated.. as it p.. me off once... I had checked the door cables but will do again.
However acc to Haynes manual Fuse F4 ( secondary Box under the seat) is for “Engine ECU/PCM” B |

I had a look at the electrical manual (for the first time ) and you are correct, F4 is mainly feeding the ECM, but I see that it is feeding other relays and fuses. Are you good in reading electrical manuals? I got electrical manual for MY12, but most likely applies also to your vehicle as well. PM me your email address to send it.

When I had the issue, someone suggested to me to check the harness by the rear engine lifting lug (left side). I understood that it is notorious for chafing there. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

By the way if I plug in a new fuse and try to turn the key it goes immediately off... so no chance to even try to start.

When our 2.2 did this it was the b post central locking wires broken and shorting together. Ray

Im lost really... the issue starts with/ after the C2518 connector. If plugged in the ECU, the fuse goes immediately - if not plugged in it doesn’t.
So my hope was when I disconnect the every connector that is part of the C2518 cable the fuse should stay alive but it isn’t... What can I do ??? |

Hi Borbarad,
As I check electrical manual I see that on C2518 there are: 1. Sensor Temperature Air Charge (T361) 2. Sensor Temperature Exhaust 1 (T551) 3. Sensor Temperature Exhaust 2 (T552) 4. Sensor Temperature Exhaust 3 (T553) 5. Sensor-Differential pressure (T398) 6. Sensor-MAF/IAT (T317) 7. Sensor-Heated oxygen(HO2S) (T131) 8. Sensor-Crankshaft position (CKP) (T102) So do you say that you have disconnected all sensors right next to their connection, and with C2518 plugged back in the ECU, the fuse blows? If yes, then tat really points to a harness issue rather than a sensor issue. I know that the Exhaust temperature sensors are connected right next to the gearbox to transfer box adapter plate. You need to take the seatbox lid underneath the chubby box to get to them. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic73061.html Maybe you can update my thread with a picture once you are investigating there But I would also look at the Heated oxygen sensor... maybe the heater has shorted out? Yep ... all disconnected and the fuse still goes... I’m checking the cables but really cannot See or feel anything.....

Hmmm,
Sensor-Heated oxygen(HO2S) (T131) is powered through F16, which is rated at 5A. Likewise, the MAF is powered through F15, also rated at 5A. The Exhaust temperature sensors are not powered, and hence no fuses. Same for the air charge temperature. The differential pressure is only 3 wires, unfused to the ECU on C2518.
