This has happened a few times now over the last few days, whilst driving normally, the engine cuts out and the glow-plug and oil pressure warning lights come on for a second or two, then all goes back to normal.
Any suggestions? Barney D4 - 2016 Graphite, Montalcino Red Written Off - 2010 90 Hard Top, Stornoway Grey |

Barney,
My 2009 110 cut out on me the other day, water temp gauge went to the top, battery light on, but no engine management or glow plug light. AA came out, the chap new exactly what the problem was - The wiring loom in the engine bay had been chafing against the lifting loop and blew the fuse. He'd seen the problem on another defender a few days before. Still took him an hour to locate the fuse. He taped up the wires and the vehicle is booked in to the local dealer. Previously, my aircon was giving problems - compressor switching on and off by itself, fan not coming on when aircon selected, not sure but i think this is connected. |

OK, after much reading on here, thought it could have been water in the fuel causing the loss of power and cut-outs.
Today I drained the fuel filter and got no water, just clean diesel, so that's not the problem. Checked the wiring looms, can't find the red bracket, and no sign of wear on the wiring looms, so I don't think thats it. Its due its first service, and the park brake recall work, so I think I shall have to put my faith in the dealer and see if they can get to the bottom of it. No, definitely no bracket - if it has fallen off it could explain the rattle behind the dashboard! Barney

I've still got my bracket but there are no cables/pipes etc: within 2cms of it. So no need to try and remove it. LANDYWATCH

The brackets are usually removed before delivery at PDI if not before. John

Any luck with the fault, my 110 Puma developed exaclty the same fault this weekend. Imtermittent, power goes 'down', glow plug and oil pressure lamp comes on, then seems happy again in about 5 seconds.
Any help gratefully received. Snowy Snowy |

Going to dealers on Wednesday.
It sounded as if they hadn't got a clue when I phoned them about it and suggested I get LRA out when it next happens. Barney D4 - 2016 Graphite, Montalcino Red Written Off - 2010 90 Hard Top, Stornoway Grey |

Got LRA out yesterday evening. They plugged in the diagnostics and couldn't tell me what it was, specifically. So he changed a relay under my seat and re-did the wires. Told me to go to the dealer if it happened again. He did note that the EGR valve was the new model as this is wht he expected to be causing the fault.
Mrs Snowric is driving to Axminster from London today so we will see if anything happens then.... Please tell me if your dealers are any the wiser. Snowy |

Car in Axminster and no problem, so far.
The fault code btw was p068A ecm relay powered down early. So this was the relay the guy 'fixed'. Snowy |

P068A is a common untested DTC which I find appears whenever you plug anything into the OBDII socket. Did it appear as a tested DTC or Untested? I have it quite regularly as an untested dtc as do others without the Glow plug or oil pressure warning lights coming on
NANOCOM - PUMAENG.APP - PUMA ENGINE fault file 0100 - 29 Mass or volume air flow A circuit signal invalid --- 1103 - 00 Mass air flow (MAF) sensor in range but higher than expected --- 0299 - 00 Turbocharger A under boost condition --- 068A - 00 Engine control module (ECM) power relay deenergized - too early --- NANOCOM - PUMAENG.APP - PUMA ENGINE fault file 068A - 00 Engine control module (ECM) power relay deenergized - too early --- 0606 - 49 Engine control module (ECM) processor internal electronic failure --- It would be helpful to know what other untested DTC's you all have logged on your ECU's, too see if there is a common list of dtc's. Especially if the following are logged as untested DTC's, P0606 or P0404-73 or 74. It would be helpful as well if you have at least a scangauge and can keep an eye on the EGR valve and Fuel pressure along with the oil pressure to see if there are changes in the readings when it happens again. I have listed the xgauge settings here to give you the gauges for the EGR and Fuel pressure: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic7398.html Though by the sound of the problem it is likely to be an electrical problem whether it is at the ECU or in the loom somewhere. Personally I would start with the glow plug circuit and with a DMM do an insulation test using the values in the workshop manual, followed by the Oil pressure sensor circuit and find where the two meet up in the wiring loom and trace the loom back to the ecu. I would also check in behind the instrument cluster incase of water ingress through the windscreen seal as you would not see it. If you have a nanocom check for fault codes in the Instrument cluster as IDS does not do this as a standard vehicle scan. The most annoying fault is an electrical intermittent one as finding it can be a real pain in the ****. And since more than one person has this fault hopefully the LR techs will raise this issue with LR and they will investigate it and produce a fix like the Turbo modulator harness extension. Also please post your outcomes as this seems to be another problem we may all soon encounter and the more info the better. |
