More gearbox woes
So after having issues with a whirring sound when the clutch was engaged and in neutral, clutch pedal up I removed the gearbox and changed the clutch release bearing..... Still had the noise.

So i bought a reconditioned gearbox and transfer box from Simmonites believing that it was the input shaft bearing on the gearbox. When i removed the old gearbox there was a huge amount of play from the rear output shaft as is common and when draining the oil from the transfer box the sump plug was covered in metal. So it needed doing urgently.

So I felt confident that this would sort it.

After finishing and leaving the truck running it still has the whirring when up to temperature from the gearbox.

Is it a duff gearbox or the whirring is coming from somewhere else? The flywheel bearing its about all thats left and that is under the same load wether the clutch is in or out.

TIA

Hi,

Yes when you depress the clutch it goes away.

I guess it happens when its in gear with the clutch up but due to the noise of the vehicle you can't hear it.

Its a 2.2 TDCI 2013 110 sorry didn't say

think you might just find it is a normal rumble quite common due to the crap clutch design and a resonance that can set up in the gearbox, if its all fairly quiet when being driven I wouldn't worry too much

clearly this is without hearing it DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Thanks mate that makes me feels somewhat better.

Ill upload a video later if i can to see what you think. I did have to chuck the sound deadening from around the turret as it wasn't in good nick. So will try to renew that to help.

But at the moment my old L200 purrs like a Bentley compared to this thing Laughing

all those metal flakes might have blocked the oil pump. have you checked this ? there is a filter. By the way i know nothing about gearboxes just the basics
