On the ramp breakover failure, had he held the suspension raise button for 3 seconds, there are 2 additional heights available for a grounded vehicle. That would have likely increased the angle to free the Land Rover.
I tried this once on a D4. I floated it in a reservoir - the suspension could then be raised further to regain traction (don't try this at home). One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Haha - my 1962 Mog has 1 lever, 4x2, 4x4, 4x4 all diffs locked. Job done I can't imagine my farmer mate next door fannying about with that screen to work out which settings he needs to pull his trailer up a muddy slope But then again farmers aren't going to be buying them as they've got a hilux with a dead sheep in the back.... |

Here's the Toyota system called crawl control ~ seems to make progress very smoothly, rather like I'd have expected the JLR one to have.

So in all the off road videos featuring the new Defender, I've not seen it make such smooth, slow progress. Are people not using the function?

Can’t say I’ve seen it being used, but doesn’t mean it hasn’t though.
I’ve tried it on ruts and it’s pretty smooth. |

My head is starting to hurt with all these “toys” - I still prefer just to set it to off-road height, low ratio and switch the HDC on and off as needs be and forget all the TR stuff and drive it the same way as my 90 Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I noticed in this video the central diff was unlocking and locking itself automatically with no driver input:

It’s not in English but from about 8 mins onward he demonstrates ATPC. Should really be standard fit on all LRs these days. |

The bit where it stops in the sand I think might be when the Auto Terrain Response is re-appraising which setting it should be in and maybe changed to sand mode to haul the car out. The video certainly demonstrated something, shame on the language front; and why are none of the other reviewer's picking up on this and showing it?

I was quite disappointed to see how little articulation there was in the defender. Thought that with bags instead of springs there would have been more.
Using a brake to help you move forwards is so idiotic that any child could tell you it is a bad idea, Diff locks will always win over that sort of system. I did not like it when it came in on the defender and I still do not like it when fitted to the pretender. Think the pretender will sell well, but it is not the car I want or need. 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |
