It's only a line in an article about another vehicle, the Grenadier, but I've not heard any mention from other sources:
"JLR, which launched its own replacement Defender last year, is meanwhile suffering production delays at its plant in Slovakia" https://inews.co.uk/news/long-reads/4x4-pu...ess-549331 The new Defender production line started in January, with sales of 100k expected. So under ideal conditions, 6 months of production should equal 50k vehicles. With less than normal/ideal conditions such as: New lines, new model, new employees - so slow production ramp up Quarantined vehicles with software issues (?) Covid 19 shutdown Just how many vehicles have been built? We know the retail sales, and the wholesale numbers behind them, but is that the total number actually made, and there have been issues at the plant or are JLR sitting on several acres of land with Defenders on them? |

Yes, they mentioned the James Bond film on Radio 4 yesterday and it is costing the production company millions in the delays. You can understand why JLR are frustrated by the delay as these films have always been big on product placement - especially with the cars. One observation, is JLR pinning all their hopes on a product placement in a film? The new look Ford Ka was used in Quantum of Solace (I think?) and I don't believe the new Ka was as popular as the original design, even with James Bond's female interest driving it in the movie. Product placement works but you need to rely on the product being seen by the people who you are aiming to flog the product to? Is that the people who go to watch James Bond films, I wonder? I am a child of the Roger Moore era, but him driving an Esprit out of the sea, would be wasted on my Father who was an avid JB fan, but would never have been in a position to buy an Esprit. |
