Suoacat you need to edit the title to include “without removing the door”
I do hope that LR are watching this because he makes some very sensible suggestions and I’ll include another - now you don’t need to remove the door you can reduce the Labour charge included in the purchase price by 2 hours....... which still makes what looks like a very cheap piece of plastic moulding extremely expensive for what it is and it looks so fragile that the first tree branch to snap back onto it will break it (I wonder if the 12 months guarantee you get when the dealership does the install includes a free replacement if that happens.........) Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come 2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

That RAI doesn't exactly radiate quality, and the way the cap fits is very shoddy.
I wonder about noise level with the passenger window open too, since the actual intake appears to be at window level. Hopefully we'll soon get a review of the RAI in use from our fave reviewers. |

I'd doubt any tech at an official JLR dealership would undertake this installment without removing the door. Massive health and safety considerations in a shared workplace. Call me a wimp but it made me cringe just watching it on the video clip

Exactly what purpose does it serve other than looking good when cruising through Chelsea?

Don’t see the purpose in the UK and most of Europe, I suspect it won’t be that functional in countries where you really need one either. Not a lot of call for a waterproof one either when you have 90cm wading depth. Anyway would anyone notice it in Chelsea High Street? It’s so slim fitting it’s not the most visible accessory for the those trying to make their car look like it’s ready for an adventure or has just returned from one. Not a piece of kit high on my list of preparations for my bucket list trip to North Norway and Iceland. it will be very useful in Australia (and South Africa) for regional area's where many roads are unsealed
and just gravel. have one fitted to my RRS, it does make a difference which ii have verified by inspecting the air filter.. and seeing whether it is still basically the usual colour, or totally consumed in red oxide powder.. yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport |

You make a point, but he is stood in the doorway, so if the door was to shut it would be on his body/legs before his wrist. There's actually more room there than you think and it looks like it would be the door seal/edge of the door card, which is a radiused edge rather than anything sharp or guillotine like. Click image to enlarge It would be possible to put a wood/rubber/foam block in the opening for extra peace of mind. |

I bet most dealers fit it that way but charge for the door removal.

Is it too cynical to suggest that JLR scheduled it that way to bung the dealers a bit of extra money, whilst they give them a haircut on the wholesale prices?

surely a tech will fit it like he did by not removing the door he can take a 1.5 hr lunch then?
Seriously, I watched BMW mess with our I3 to get the charge flap fixed they had a natty device that clipped onto the top door Frame and onto the roof to stop the door being shut on the guys fingers. It was extendable so he could lock the door at the exact angle he needed. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE RR MY23 HSE PHEV D5 MY19 HSE - Now Sold D4 MY16 HSE Luxury - Now Sold D4 MY12 HSE - Gone D3 MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten |
