"Make changes that improve it significantly" - there must be someone in JLR that reads this and thinks who is going to explain to the 33,700 who bought the MY20 version, that JLR are now telling them they bought a mistake?

To paraphrase the old axiom. If you give enough chimpanzees a type writer each and let them bang away for an indefinite period, the odds are that one of them will come up with King Lear.
So if JLR gave enough chimpanzees a drawing board and pencil each, one of them is bound to come up with a decent successor to the Defender. Well they can't do any worse..... Rolling with laughter 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

All it will get is Pivi Pro infotainment, as incontrol touch pro is garbage, the D300 MHEV engine, some interior/exterior tweaks.

Number plate looks the same to me

I liked my D5, was very comfortable long distance cruiser. Lost a bit of the character of the old one but good car in its own right. Too pricey for me now though and really it’s bigger than I need. Namib Orange probably the best colour for it.

I've always thought that the bonnet looked too long in proportion to the rest of the body rear of the A pillar. Also it seems too low at the front which gives it a downhill appearance. They definitely made a mistake omitting a drop down tailgate and of course as everyone comments - the offset number plate.

I strongly suspect that the number plate will be centred for the face-lifted version.

For me the suspension is much too soft compared with the D3 and D4. Defender 90XS SW

I've just had an email from my local dealer (Duckworths of Market Rasen) offering a £8,500 dealer deposit contribution. Defender 90XS SW

I always thought it was the rear overhang that people disliked, not the number plate. I know that upset some people but maybe that was in addition to the rest of the rear end not being right. Let’s be honest, amongst Disco fans version 1 and 4 were the best, both of which had the offset number plate and the ridge/hip in the roofline. It’s those details, plus a front end that clearly took cues from a Defender, that is what we loved. And as for his talk about DNA, preserving it is a good thing with an iconic vehicle. Look at the G Wagen. But the mad professor is deranged or kidding himself if he thinks any real DNA from the defender transferred to the new Defender. Laughable.

But if you want to understand how Mr McGoo thinks, here’s an insight. Utter guff. And from what he says and how LR have evolved since he became head of Design, you can see clearly see why the Defender became what it did. Or looking at it another way, why 75 years of iconic vehicle development and evolution were scrapped with the swish of a pen.

I think the offset number plate was made a lot worse by dealers insisting on fitting ugly oversize number plates. Why do they do that? The rear of the Rover 75 seemed to attract the same abuse too. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Very much doubt that number plate will change.

My one was delivered with the large plate, looking at the 2021 car and my 17MY the area where the plate goes looks to be narrower on the 2021 model to prevent large plates being fitted. Also looks like it has narrower rear tail lights.
