Dark side
Off to look at a 2018 XC90 tomorrow. We had a V70 many years ago and it was reliable, comfortable, practical.... Mrs H’s A4 is too small with two teenagers and 3 hounds. As unfashionable as large 4x4s are they kind of do the job we need doing. I’ve no faith in newer LR products, Audi seem too £ for what they are so it will be interesting to see what Ovlov are offering.

I like the Volvo's they have some nice looking cars.

Interiors are smart too, I know this is a LR forum but we have other makes and modes in the house that all do different jobs,

Let us know how you get on and how the dealer is Smile

My daily driver is a 2000 V70, it's low mileage for its age at ~245.000km but still going strong. It's a 2.4T so no slouch either. That's not to say it's very sporty, because it isn't. It's more of a motorway cruiser with a huge boot (at the expense of 2nd row legroom, so the girls better not grow too long legs). Only downsides are MPG (I struggle to get 10 L/100km) and its turning circle. An oil tanker makes tighter turns! Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

We had a 2.5 20v V70. I was only 26, so it wasn’t exactly cool (still not thinking about it...) but it was a great car. Every extra had been ticked by my father in law when he bought it new. He did 60k miles and I bought it from him for trade in value. I even bought some corduroy trousers and a tank top to go with it. 😊

I had a T5 as a company car years ago, that was a proper rocket and could carry loads of stuff.

Well it wasn’t a great experience. The XC90 I wanted to see wasn’t actually there, we were kept waiting half an hour, despite all the fuss about making an appointment etc. We eventually went for a test drive in another XC90 with the same 2.0 diesel engine. It simply isn’t big enough for the car, it’s noisy under acceleration and lacks any discernible get up and go. I also sat in a V90, which felt like a nice place to be. There are also considerably cheaper than the XC90. Boot was badly compromised by the rake.

Back to the drawing board. It might be a late Disco 4 or 2012 L322 at this rate.

Can't help with modern Volvo advice either, the only one I've driven was a 144 Laughing Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

I did look at changing the 306 for a C30, but finding a low mileage one was no no, So the 306 stayed and got the defender. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
