/\ and Eric thought it was a wet dream 🤦♂️
The rationale for it was that there are many car factories in the same area, the competition for staff is fierce and the pay rates increasing through market pressure to uncompetitive levels. Factory A puts a sign up saying we now pay half a groat more and the coaches all turn into that yard, leaving LR or whoever in the lurch. Might be true, might not. |

JLR senior management late to the table again.
Well before they announced the move there, Slovakia’s economy had already seen a period of substantial growth, falling unemployment, greater unionisation and unrest among workers who were seeing foreign car companies paying them less for building the same cars/undertaking the same tasks as in other countries. The cheap labour ride was never going to last for long. |

No different to the offshoring of IT. I did some work for Astra Zeneca who had at the time arrangements with Infosys, Cognizant et al. You’d be speaking to XYZ from Infosys one week and they’d appear at Cognizant the week after. A few dollars more.
All now onshore. Shock horror 🤥 |

China it is then! Joking aside, because of JLR’s ‘Junk’ credit rating and a knock back from our government they had to borrow a load of dough from Chinese banks. It wouldn’t surprise me if they ended up with equity as well. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |
