110 Wolf Hardtop
Recently I have found myself hankering after a 110 wolf hard top, most decent ones seam to be around the 12k mark, Marple road garage have a couple of tidy ones at the moment...

My question to anyone who has one are the worth the money ??

Tks Thumbs Up

They are a stripped down, hardcore no nonsense defender. No comforts on the early releases but some sound proofing and a good rollcage on all the ones coming out now. I’ve got a TUL and love it, after 14 years working on and driving them all over the world it’s nice to still get to play with one, a TUM would be nice but for me I’d have to have the GS version or light roll FFR, too many radio bits make it lose the practicality.

If you need any advice or want to ask any random questions I’m happy to help Thumbs Up 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Thanks Mash..Am I right in thinking that the main differences between a 110 wolf over a standard 300tdi 110 hardtop is -

Heavy Duty chassis
Uprated rear axle
Fiberglass hardtop
Full internal roll cage
Wright off road mating on most...

I assume the running gear is much the same as standard ?

All electrics are 24v not a problem and I do like 24v, can cost more to replace parts but a 12v conversion is possible.

Chassis is upgraded and the rear crossmember is a totally different design, much better than a civvie one.

Rear axle is strengthened as apparently they snapped normal casings on trials.

Spare is either side mounted left or right depending on where it was based, or the mod of a rear swing away that came and went (some still fitted).

Yea the one part roof is fibreglass, the reason is the roll hoop fitted originally was too tall for a standard roof so this one was made, also allows a little more head room for those sitting in the back.

All the ones being cast now and for the last few years I think have acoustic matting fitted to the front along with the front roll cage, part of the improved H&S by reducing noise and increasing roll over protection. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Nidge,
Recently the number and quality of the vehicles in Brightwells auctions are a bit poor. I have been looking at them for a few months. I don’t know if the supply is drying up - none left in service, or the pandemic has slowed down the movements of vehicles.
The one you mentioned has a fair number of problems but will probably bid to 4k, of course plus the commission and vat.
It’s a bit of a gamble buying without seeing, hearing, or driving them.

What do you want to use it for?

Not on the Wolf, but on Marple Road. I bought my 90 from them about 5 years ago and it was immaculate. They had a very clean selection at the time and I have no reason to think otherwise now.

You will need to lodge a £5k refundable deposit to bid, but can do it on a credit card and it comes back quickly if you don't win Thumbs Up

Cheers lads.

Thanks for the heads up v8Bob, I've done a couple of complete rebuilds now so a bit of work doesn't scare me as long as the price is right...but I hear what you are saying.

brightwells have plenty of ex mod stock but less and less wolfs as the units that have them dont want to lose them. alot of the current ones need lots of tlc to get back to 100% fit for road use.

bargains are few and far between but a wolf is a far better bet than a civvie motor of the same age.

dont forget they have reserves and the extra vat and fees on top of the sale price Circa32%

Just noticed the vin numbers on the 2 plates on lot 3 don’t match - avoid or check with Brightwells?
They might have muddled the photos, or then again they might not.

To the OP:

I have one (I used to have 2). You might have seen it in the latest LRM with the Camel Trophy feature Smile

The main differences are as you highlighted, also, the chassis etc was fully waxed in Dinitrol and part of the service routine. If you pick a good one, they are pretty rock solid, most will have some form of footwell corrosion.

They will also have LOTS of additional parts and paraphernalia you don;t need which you will want to strip out, unless you like paying the fuel to carry round about half a tonne of excess metal.

Happy to answer any more questions.
