I'm not familiar with that particular model but they're all much the same. There'll be a filler plug at the non-handle end of the pump, probably on the top surface. If it's a quality pump like an Enerpac it will have a dipstick, but with the generic Chinesium pumps there may not be.
To bleed, just make sure that there's plenty of hydraulic oil in the reservoir (if it's low, raise the non-handle end of the pump slightly) and fully extend the ram. When you release the ram, any air in the system (which will have formed a bubble at the top of the ram) will pass back through to the reservoir. Hey presto, system bled and embolism free! Simples. If you top it up, use a decent hydraulic oil not something like brake fluid which is harmful on most seals. I generally use Castrol Hyspin AWS22, but places like Machine Mart sell sensible sized containers of hydraulic oil (which is actually good for machine tool moving parts too). |

Got some oil today. Noticed for the first time since owning the press there is a hook to hang the pump off.
With the pump hanging up, I removed the top bung to find this had a dipstick setup with two marks to show min/max. It was dry. Topped up with around 200ml of fluid. Worked the ram up and down and undoing the filler air escaped. I took the view that with the ram compressed that was the best time to top up as when extended all the oil would be in the ram. So far i think its ok. There is a slight weep on the ram but hopefully still able to press what i need to press. Thanks BW The press. ![]() Click image to enlarge 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

If you top up with the ram extended you'll either never get it retracted or you'll get a massive and unwanted discharge from the vent!
