Ever fallen out of love with a car?! Like an elderly aunt, the pick up is now leaking a bit. When I write a bit, I mean a lot, both from the transfer box and what looks like around the crank seal. Having spent a good chunk on her (the pick up, not my aunt) a few months back it is frustrating to say the least. After performing faultlessly a fortnight ago on the trip to Cumbria towing a trailer full of sheep, I now can’t take her anywhere as the deposits are too embarrassing (applies to both).
Booked in for Monday to hopefully get sorted. The pick up is in the last chance saloon in the eyes of Mrs H. A oil stained driveway / parking area isn’t popular 😬 |

Sad to hear that.
My P plate 300Tdi on 150,000 doesn't drip too much, so must suspect the rebuild for the crank seal? Presume it isn't gearbox oil coming forwards? Boxes becoming pressurised and forcing oil out of both ends? Clearly just guessing here, hope it all ends well. |

That's really nifty, not seen one of those before! What dictates whether side or top opening is best? |

Thanks Slidey.
Re the tailgate there is a pin bottom left which when removed enables the door to open wide - as long as you have undone the left hand strop!! It came from Purely Metal and Colin was very helpful re a couple of issues with the original set which didn’t fit correctly. |

Clearly I'm just being a fanny. There is a minor leak from the sump seal, and the transfer box has minor leaks from various places. The garage (fair play) said not to bother doing anything with them for now, all levels are fine and it is as dry a 300tdi as they have seen in a long time. The transfer box out and fixed and the sump would have been around £600, so it can wait!
She is back to being my daily driver and leaving deposits here and there. |

As long as your not putting oil in once a week I wouldn't worry about it.
Just proves there is oil in it! I can remember a tale of a chap who did a nut and bolt rebuild on his series 3 and would proudly boast he had never had a single leak. Imagine his embarrassment when he ground to a halt with a seized gearbox which was dry as bone due to having never been filled with oil Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |
