Seek Pi on Radio
Any one knows how to disable “SEEK PI” feature on a tdci?
It is very irritating as it happens so often.
In google can find other information if i google “pi seek” but no info for landrover radios.

I believe that is Land Rover Special Vehicles feature to be enabled on Defenders sold in the Wigan area of Lancashire only.

It's "P(rogram) I(nformation) Seek"
iThe PI data contains, amongst other things, the identity and info for the station. So somehow your Radio is deciding the signal for Capital is to weak, so it looks (does a PI Seek) for the nearest station transmitting the same PI
Unfortunatley bad reception is quite common on defenders as I have found with a few aftermarket radios i've tried. If you've had any after market Leds fitted these may squash your reception a bit (lot) and also could could try a different antenna.
Those ferrite rings also help on anything LED

If that doesn't work then some areas have stronger signal. So just move house. Embarassed

Thank you Bluest, but which leg are you pulling me?

What I could figure out, PI stands for Programme Identification and is related/part of the RDS. Seems like it can happen when the signal is weak.

I want to disable Seek PI as it mutes the radio for about 45to 60seconds, which can become annoying when it happens every 5 mins or so. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thank you PCM.

I have owned this Defender for a little over 6 months now. There are no LED lights on it. It had a few 'extra' cables for a winch when I bought it, however I removed everything. Previous owner installed working lights at rear, but those are halogen.
I have installed a reversing camera, and that has LED illumination, which for the time being, I connected both camera and monitor with the working lights (I am still waiting for connectors to take power off the reverse light without cutting any cables), but the SEEK PI happens when the working lights are off. SEEK PI actually was already happening before I connected the reversing camera. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

There will be a way to turn of off. But that will just be masking the fact you have poor reception.
On some radios you press the power button for a few seconds and select AF to off.
Just try a few buttons and see what you cand see. If anyone knows who makes that radio then you'll be able to check the manual. It'll just be an LR branded pioneer etc..

Good luck...

Hi Bushpig,

Thank you very much for pasting images from the manual. pm sent as well.

What I can see is that if you press and hold the volume button, you get in Menu 2. There can switch off the AF (Alternate Frequency). I highlighted the steps in Red.

Darren, that looks right...
But have not been with my Defender for over 18 months...
Have sent you the owners manual/handbook

The instructions were spot on.. AF was On, now it is now off, but have not driven it much to confirm that the Seek Pi does not interrupt listening to the radio. Perhaps I will start hearing the interference of noise instead Rolling with laughter 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
