300 Tdi 90 Rear Spring
The springs on the back of the 90 are really starting to show their age and need replacing.

Do I stick with the standard springs that we’re fitted to 90 that have served well over the years or move to progressive rate springs.

The 90 is empty most of the time but moves 150kgs of animal food a couple of times a month. It regularly tows mini diggers and building materials around.

I was thinking of fitting RKB101240 and RKB101230. Do the tighter coils go at the top or bottom.

Cheers

Martin

Putting the springs in either way up will not affect their functionality or behaviour at all. However, I would fit them with the tighter coils at the top as this will make it easier to pressure wash off and stop any muck getting trapped in the bottom of the spring and rotting it and the spring seat out.

I replaced some very worn springs on my old 90 with a set of new LR standard ones and it absolutely transformed it. I've just done a similar thing the same with my 110, albeit with a slightly different spec. and would do so again.

A worthwhile addition whilst changing springs are to add Discovery spring isolators to the tops. At the rear, Disco 1 ones and if doing the front, use those from a Disco 2 with built in turret ring and bolts.

I have just fitted RKB101240 and RKB101230 to the rear of my 90 during a re-chassis. Not as firm as the Bearmach Blue springs that they replace so the rear is now sitting slightly lower than before. I have adjusted my Koni shocks to give a firmer ride so it will be interesting to see over the next couple of weeks (I am taxing the vehicle again on 1st July) how it behaves.
I have fitted spring isolators ANR2938 F&R, not certain if any difference will be noticeable but thought I would give them a try. ONE LIFE, GET IT!
