I have an old metal case one like that. COnnection is a bit hit & miss sometimes. Especially when you start the engine.

I had this metal Nanocom one, now I have Nanocom Evo and sometimes I use also different diagnostics. All suffers from connection problems in some cars. OBD connector is often dirty or corroded, and is not easy co check and clean.
Nanocom One uses RJ45 connector and this is not very reliable in car environment. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |

Thanks for the replies. A bit more research has suggested to reinforce the earth at the obd connector and the Engine ecu to connect together / to the battery earth to ensure the potentials are the same. After a look at the manuals I now have another head scratcher as the ECM earths supposedly all connect and run to stud C0056 under the drivers seat. After a look I have the stud/nuts covered in original paint and no wiring attached. Any idea where the ECM earth point is?

Problem solved. There wasn’t an earth to the seat box but there was an empty stud under it. After cleaning up the bulkhead earth (behind the expansion bottle) and running an earth direct from the battery to the internal stud on the drivers side of the seat box, I now have no interruptions on the Nanocom and the fuel gauge appears to now be working at last. 2003 Defender TD5 Hardtop (current - work in progress)
