Losing faith
Bit fed up with it this week.

It's going in for a new clutch. I've noticed oil coming out if the turbo.

The worse thing is the £688 bill for a 24k service.

Feel I have a crap landie and a sore arse after the shafting.

I hear your pain! They get you like that from time to time don't they but the grass is not necessarily greener elsewhere.

Remember the slogan "If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen"?

Normally great cars but I bought a Golf brand new in 2002 and it spent more time in the warranty and service departments for the first three years of its life than I care to remember. At the end of it, it had been rebuilt so many times I practically had a brand new car again! Veedub servicing makes Land Rover servicing look like pennies too...

So whilst I'm sure that makes no difference to your annoyance and trust me, I know how annoyed you are...as I say, the grass is not always greener.

Keep the faith! Smile She's not old...just older

I don't think I could leave driving landies. Just this one is doing my head in. It would be interesting to know how much a service on 27k BMW or Audi is.

I know about bad cars one of the lads has a l200 and it has been on and off all this year and cost £2.3k in repairs.

Why take it to a main dealer with crazy hourly charges Rolling Eyes Go to a good recommended independent that is accepted by LR, as long as they use the correct genuine parts it will not affect your warranty.

I think my stealer wants around £300-£400 for a first service which I believe is largely an oil and filter change - No way. It will be going to Gigglepin for future maintenance Thumbs Up

Sorry but I think you have been right royally shafted there!

Two local dealerships quoted me between £461 and £485 inc VAT for 24k service and they were both prepared to knock 15% off that price as well taking the bill down to just over £400.

Local independent will do it for maximum of £355 (inc VAT). Need some other work doing at the same time. Guess who will get the work?

With main dealers it is important to get the 'menu' price first, phone a couple up and then get them to price match/discount.

I just paid £450ish for 24k service at main dealers, I'm just getting fed up with going back for warranty work every couple of months.
At least it's gets a free valet every time, not actually washed it myself in over 2 years! Laughing

What Zag and Brendan said. And in my experience you get better service from an independent and half the price. My local guy is £35 an hour as opposed to 80 / hour at the dealer.

i have huge respect fro Gigglepin. the guys in the service area are very knowleable and helpful. the parts team are great as well. only last week they helped out my son on a mements notice to keep his 90 on the road after a complete UJ failure. BM52

They get you on daft things. £5 for washer fluid and I swear I don't let it go down very far. The price included rear pads.

On the matter of warranty mines been in for the same things a few times. Now the clutch at 24k and they said it was my fault for bad driving.

I do love me 110 but the build quality is poor and the service is a rip off. I should have done the tear pads myself really I knew they would be up 110's seem to cane rear pads.

Had mine recently done on the BM in my signature - trouble is they stagger them and separate all the services - oil then inspection then brake fluid, etc. Makes keeping track pretty hard.

However I had four done at once (they were all fairly close to needing doing) plus an MOT and it was £460 at 28k miles. Have to say, your service does sound flipping pricey - that's supercar territory IMO. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Australia 2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 SW Chawton White
My dealer here in melbourne has charged $396.00 AUD (265 pounds) 30,000km, $705.00 AUD (473 pounds) 40,000 km and $491.00 AUS (281 pounds) 50,000km for servicing. The Defender is being serviced on a time/distance basis, not Km so at present has done 41,000km.

The clutch was changed under warranty at 20,000km and a few minor recalls with output shaft seals but so far nothing else. Original brake pads, EGR valve and vacuum pump still fitted.

The Defender is cheaper than my first 2002 Toyota Hilux to service but possibly more expensive than my second 07 Hilux which I sold to buy the Defender in 09.

Given mine is a September 07 model I have had few problems (touch wood) and have not regretted purchasing my first Land Rover. It is great fun to drive, and people love to chat to me about it. When you get off sealed roads, it does what it does best with little fuss. While there are always "housekeeping " jobs to do on it most weekends, I knew that would be the case when I got it and enjoy that part of ownership.

Didnt you say you had new rear pads...if so around £120 dealer rate is about right (would be around £110 for discs and pads at an ind.) Mike
