It’s great you’ve had it for so long. At least you know what needs doing.

I’ve had the Bonneville since early 80’s as well. It just shook itself to pieces over the years and has been transported in boxes through about 4 house moves.

SHMBO has been very patient. I’ve never had the holy trinity of time, money and space to get it back together. Now have the luxury of lockdown time, a bit more space and less money spent going out to at least consider making a start. Laughing

I had the BSA running briefly in the 80’s but that is a project further down the line... 2012 110 XS SW Orkney Grey

I’m looking forward to seeing how you get on DG. I’m sure the Triton - and the BSA when you get round to that too, will be very satisfying projects.

I’m hankering after a BSA myself but something older. I have a growing itch for a WD20 single or to be fair, any British single 4-stroke ex-forces bike from the WW2 era. That will mean selling the XL and another trail bike to get a slice of the holy trinity you refer to Thumbs Up

If your going for a café racer, get a proper (period) one!!!

And that’s a period replica of the original Thruxton. I had one just like it early 70’s. The same TT100 tyres, 4.5gallon tank, the MkIII Amal Concentric carbs will open velocity stacks. No fairing on mine though but it did have open Thruxton pipes. My parents complained that they could feel the whole house shake when I started her up!

Still remember the registration - JNW21E. It was the 2 wheel version of the Land Rover - in so much that it taught me how to be a mechanic. Spent more time getting my hands oily than actually riding it. And when I did ride it (in a lively youthful manner) it shook so badly with it 360 degree twin configuration that my eyesight became too blurred to see the road ahead!

Happy days! Rolling with laughter

Close, Its a Rickman CR with the signature nickel plated brazed frame and a T120 (Bonneville) engine. It did have straight through Megaphones on but they are just a bit TOO LOUD for today, so it is now silenced - a bit. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

Bow down Bow down Those Rickman frames were the ones to have in the 70’s; absolutely beautiful.

They still make them. I don’t know what the quality is like these days but prices are quite reasonable. Cheaper than many pushbike frames. 2012 110 XS SW Orkney Grey

Grandson will have to grow a bit before he can reach the bars!!!!
And looking at that picture I will have to change the Greenstuff Pads. Never really noticed them until this picture but they jar with me now. Or a bit of touch up paint? Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

^^^ Yes I understand your discomfort with the green pads. It's always nice to engage with a fellow OCD sufferer! Lol.

Your grandson looks very excited to be sitting astride that magnificent machine.

I notice the extended intakes between carbs and manifold. Suggests 3134 cams perhaps?

Are you aware that the original Amal velocity stacks (bell mouths) are still available?

See here....
