Late to reply, but in case any one needs to drill high tensile bolts, on a hand driller, then go for Cobalt drills. They can drill in 12.9 grade bolts, no problem. If you can take the part to a press drill, then go for carbide drills. Carbide drills are the hardest, followed by Cobalt and then HighSpeed Steel. The harder is the drill, the less ductile, or flexible it is, hence it is difficult to drill with Carbide drills on a hand driller without breaking it. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

If you are in pinch and you can quite easily grind a masonry bit to drill hard metals. I needed to put a roll pin through the hardened PTO shaft on my tractor. A HSS drill wouldn’t touch it, but I managed to drill it with reground masonry bit in a hand drill. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
