Seen these being promoted and discussed on FB. The prices seem too good to be true and there doesn’t seem to be any detailed tech specs, but have to admit, I’m tempted. Could never justify an Engel or similar, but one of these with a three year guarantee seems like it’s worth a punt. Ive read they do have low voltage cut off, although not mentioned in the ad.

Hmm, Interesting... not that I'm in the market for one having bought a Waeco Mobicool Compressor fridge last year.
Looked out of interest as a mate was looking for one and in the spec the AC voltage is listed as 120V. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

As a broad brush stroke picture N and S America operates on 110 - 120 volt AC whereas most of the rest of the world is on 220-240 volts AC.
The specification also talks about a power cord rather then a power lead which is probably the more common expression in UK English. One question would be what plug is attached to the power cord/lead. UK 3 pin or American/continental 2 pin? My suspicions would be that Bearmach marketing department has not got the real technical experience to actually understand the information they are giving out and what market place they are aiming at. A 120 volt AC 12/24 volt DC would have limited use in Europe. We tend to use our travel fridges as an extra fridge/freezer at various shows and home events. Have seen the effects of marketing departments not knowing the difference between DRLs and position lights, UK supermarkets selling electrical products in the UK with 2 pin plugs. An interesting looking fridge but more information needed such as make of compressor, current draw of compressor, actual AC voltage and plug, what is the actual internal volume, in freezer mode do you have a salad/dairy section? the marketing department at Bearmach have no technical understanding, they take a product usually presented to them after technical has had a look and decided it's ok and then management in sales agree to take it to market then it is purely take "X" use the usual marketing template here's the base specs and create a flyer. This will then be adapted to go on the news of the website and printed to go to the suppliers in with their directions and a copy goes on the portal to view alongside the online supplier ordering.
The chaps in home or export markets sales will only get the same level of info marketing did and anything more complex will have to be referred to technical for answers. I saw the initial ask on FB about what was the amperage per hour was and this will no doubt be put to technical to answer where no doubt as to the lack of instant answer they are having to ask the manufacturer who I doubt is in this time zone. If it's intermittent use I'd recommend a Halfords one too. Just got back from 2 weeks in Scotland which was its first outing. 40l fridge was 65 quid and second deep cycle battery was about 90. Already had a relay for a split charge so couple of evenings work and second battery installed and wired in. Ran a permanent socket to the boot and voila.
Ok possibly a bit noisier than the more expensive ones but I chucked it under the vehicle when parked up for the night and left it running. Survived West Coast downpours. For an 8th of the price can't really fault it. Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

Assume the Halfords one is thermo electric effect at that price. They aren’t powerful enough in hot weather or if you open the fridge often, are running continuously so burn electric and generate a lot of condensation. It’s what I use at the minute and can't wait to the day I can get a proper compressor job. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I used to go camping with a cheap box. After having owned a Waeco cfx I would never want to go back to those ‘noisy’ battery consuming boxes that can’t keep the beer cool in the south of France. 😬
Sold it together with my Defender back then but planning on getting one back now. |
