Looking to see if anyone has fitted the pre-Puma L148 Safety Devices cage with Puma second row seats and/or Puma tub
http://www.safetydevices.com/expedition/pr.../655/1810/ The reason being the rear hoop may foul the seats. There is a design for the Pumas with a different hoop design, but its only on the Full external or middle only cages (which I don't want). I've already contacted Safety Devices and they gave a very official response only advising on what was designed for a Puma. In my case I want the 2/3 internal cage and Puma seats, and hopefully a Puma tub if the cage fits. Some photos to explain: L148 L183 (although I believe this is a photo from the L172 which is an official Puma design) L255 Cheers! Bankz - I fitted an L255 into my car recently. Just the middle two hoops. I just want a little more protection in the event of a crash (an illusion possibly) if there was an option for an internal front section I'd maybe consider that, as personally I really don't like the look of the external cages. Too 'full on' for me. But on your point about space, once it's in place, you really hardly notice it.
Will - I'm afraid I can't answer your question as I don't have the Puma rear seats - just the Tdi era three folding jons. But if I can take any specific measurements that would help you out, just ask. Bankz - a few reasons - looks being one, I have an external cage on my second Defender and it's noisy at speed, also it's more metal so more weight, and having an internal cage around the second row gives something sturdy to fix a load space barrier to.
I understand why people want external cages. I've travelled in a few Defenders in the second row with the internal cages and if anything it gives something strong to hold onto instead of the flimsy roof handles! Don thanks for the offer. It may be the other way round - if someone with Puma seats can measure the widest point and it's height, and someone with an L148 cage can measure the width at that height. Actually i've seen that Thon has the full length internal cage (L183) in his Puma: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic68311.html I'll pm for some info as the middle section of the L183 and L148 should be the same.
