Alternative to welding ?
Hi all, I shan’t bore you with my ongoing moaning about all my stuff in storage again Rolling with laughter

Anyhow, - I’m Playing with some ideas on induction on my 90 and need to “weld “some mild steel pipe to flat plate, both about 1.5 mm thickness
It’s non load bearing but should be able to stand up to fatigue/ shaking around a bit ,

So not being able to mig or tig it currently I was wondering if I could bond it with some kind of sealant or metal paste ?
It’s basiclly a tube going through a metal plate,

I don’t know anyone localish that would weld do this without having my trousers taken down
I did find a place but they quoted me £80 to tig a 1 inch weld in a stainless pipe, all ready prepped and cleaned Rolling with laughter

Any thoughts if it would be ok and if so products ?

Thanks all Thumbs Up

Just my idle thought, but I would think a 2 part epoxy adhesive like Araldyte would be sufficient but I’d want a good fit between the parts so you aren’t doing too much gap filling with the glue. Also I’d imagine corrosion would set in and weaken the joint quickly so you’ll need to get a coating on it. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

We use Wurth Bond and Seal at work, comes in a cartridge like silicone sealant.
Once set it is very very strong and can’t be parted, also over-paintable if needed.

Instead of just bonding the 2 parts together, cut a shaped hole in the plate and bend 2 or 3 tabs that wrap up the side of the tube. The tabs can be screwed or riveted to the tube to have a mechanical joint, then apply a sealant, either epoxy or silicone.
That depends if the hole is big enough to make the folded tabs.

Alternatively, some angle pieces riveted to both the plate and the tube would do a similar job.
