Diff flange fitment problem
I am having a problem replacing my diff flange on the rear of my 1989 Ninety.
I believe the kit should be STC3722 which in general seems to be superseded by STC4858 (which is what I have been supplied)
Followed the instruction and removed the spacer, fitted the new flange and seal BUT when you tighten the nut up the mud shied tightens down onto the nose of the diff housing instead of fitting inside the nose of the diff housing, of course this then stops the diff from turning.
My original mud shield looks like FRC8154 and sits proud of the nose, the new mud shield should fit inside the nose of the diff and look like FTC5317. See the link below.
Any ideas, correct (superseded) flange fitted with wrong mud shield maybe? (Allmakes part supplied by JGS4X4)

Take the mud shield off the old and put it on the new?

I did think about that but the seals are different ones, would that be ok?
Also crossed my mind that I would damage the mud shield trying to remove them. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

exactly the same happened to me, where the mud shield jams against the diff.
Such a long time ago I cant remember exactly how I did it but i managed to modify the mud shields just enough to make em work properly.

Ok, followed the advice and swapped the mud shield round, luckily I also had a spare correct seal in the garage.
