I do agree with regard to the standard type, but someone from the company was on the radio and trying to suggest these were different. Interviewer cut them off before they could really explain.

They've only abandoned linking the campaign directly to the NHS. They now state they still want to go ahead on Sunday with all proceeds going to charity but not linked to the NHS.
Does this company not understand that the Fire Service and other emergency services are against this because of the fire risk and potential to overwhelm our already stretched emergency services. RSPCA and NFU are against them because of potential animal welfare issues. Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |

never been a good idea I'm all for rising funds for charity we donate to the Yorkshire air ambulance regularly . but putting a naked flame in the air is never a good idea . the fields near me are tinder dry it would not take a lot for a huge fire

IIRC a couple of those lanterns burnt down a zoo in Germany recently?
Bad idea as a whole. |

The sheer arrogance of the company is astonishing.
They dismiss everyone's concerns just so they can continue to profit from selling the damned things. As well as the danger of causing fires and harming animals, lanterns are a danger to air traffic and have been responsible for coastal rescue false alarms. A full ban should have been implemented. https://www.nightskylanterns.co.uk/blog/?start=10&length=10 "We are totally shocked to hear about the terrible accidents at the zoo in Germany, which should have never happened. Our deepest sympathy to the sorrowing people of the zoo for their loss." - but they're still selling them! Last edited by DSC-off on 17th Apr 2020 7:59pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I hate these things so much.
I saw a photo of a horse where one of these had fallen on its rug and set it on fire. I cant imagine how horrific that must have been. If I was to stand on a roof top catapulting flairs into other peoples houses and gardens I'd be arrested for arson. How is this any different? Things like that should have been banned years ago,
I remember an idiot family lived a door away from me, was messing about with one. The thing ended landing very close to my dads tourer caravan, which had gas bottles in it, My dad shouted at him, and the sharp got hold of it, My dad warned him if that had caused a fire, my dad would have snapped him into pieces. The same goes for fireworks too, Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Those kind of lanterns has been banned a looong time ago here in Chile due the fire risk in special considering that we are in a mediterranean climate that is quite dry several month a year. Eduardo
