yes, it's an aftermarket disconnectable anti-roll bar origingally made by X-Engineering (now taken over by Foundry 4x4). The round item in the first photo is actually a freewheeling hub (as used on Series Land-Rovers) configured to release the ARB when disengaged.

The idea is that on the road the ARB is stiffer than a standard one to provide less body roll, but off road it can be disconnected to allow greater axle movement.

They are generally reckoned to be absolutely terrible and you should remove it and give it to me for safe disposal as soon as possible! Rolling with laughter

Actually it is a good thing to have if you do intend to use your Defender heavily laden on-road and also off road where maximum axle travel might be needed. Definitely a plus point on the vehicle.

See https://foundry4x4.co.uk/index.php?route=p...duct_id=77 for more info.

Ah, that explains why the lower drop link joint is buggard.
If you've been driving it in circumstances where it would see a lot of axle articulation, without disconnecting the ARB, it will put a lot of stress on the joints.

4 X 2 = Disengaged
4 x 4 = Engaged, ie anti roll bar is connected and working.

As already mentioned it's a freewheeling hub, normally used to disengage front axle drive. Thumbs Up
