£47k for a ULEZ compliant petrol transplant? £47k? That's 3600 days (TEN years) of driving in London in any given Def before it even starts paying its way, but you fork out the cash upfront rather than £12.5/day spread over the decade or more. And if you sell, it's gone.
Alernatively you could use your Def for occasional jaunts and then spend the money buying another purpose built fully ULEZ compliant car as an urban roundaround. Utterly mad price. There is no way those ev conversions should really be road legal when you look at the guidance on the .gov site for rebuilt or radically altered cars. The only way would be small scale production as a completely different brand and not as a Land Rover. |

I don't disagree with you that probably they are not legal, but as things stand all these dumb rules are more a matter of principle than practice. Most, as in 99.99% of people, do nothing to their cars and just buy run and sell/scrap them.
Those very few people that mess around with cars to the point that they change the drive train and finish the job till it drives, well they probably know what they doing so they are hardly going to be a menace to society. Those that want to turn it into a business should be getting support not obstruction. Admittedly I live in France which has got to be the dumbest country on the planet in terms of rules and regulations |

France is all about Tax and as there's no annual road tax in France, the state is reliant on power/emissions tax at time of registration.
As such, given the French have a habit of doing things and not informing the government afterwards (as an estate agent I know all too well just how many houses aren't compliant for Tax d'Habitation and Tax Fonciere after a cheeky, undeclared extention or renovation), it goes without saying they wouldn't want people to change engines, remap engines, etc without any opportunity to recover tax that relates to that extra engine size/power/emissions. As it would be impossible to control and verify, it's easier to have a blanket ban. Altough, I've heard that there are exemptions and my local Def indie has certainly thrown a 3l Diesel into his Td5. Officially. I'm led to believe one avenue is medical, i.e. if you can provide a medical certificate to adapt your car. For example from manual to auto. I'm wondering if I can get a certificate for my back (let's be honest, the French are VERY good at dishing out medical certificates), for change to a full auto, whether CT will notice that the auto-box happened to have a 3l M57 diesel stuck to the front? Sounds convincing... let's face it as long as you can fit it in a rule... nobody really cares.

Then when you have spent all that money they will (even though the lying Toad of Toad Hall denies it) flip the switch on the cameras to Pay by Mile, catching everyone, EV, Classic overpriced engine conversions.
They said two years ago that the cameras were ordered to be dual purpose, prior to any consultation, because ULEZ revenue was predicated to drop off during 2025. He can deny that's what he would do now, but if he wins the next mayoral elections i am sure that the small print in his mandate will ensure the wording is in there. Then everyone will say 'that's what you voted for'. Retail is collapsing so i am sure those outside London will just give up on the place. |

Looking at the Twisted web page.......the New Toyota Land Cruiser looks more appealing instead (for those interested you can now register your interest on the Toyota web site)
And i am guessing that they are only interested in Puma conversions and not us folks in TD5's |

I certainly have, it adds a £12 premium to anything I buy within the M25, so prices small businesses on the edge of the zone out of the market. As for social excursions, I don’t bother any more either, but out of principle. |
