Painting black bits - advice requested
My rock sliders are on my to do list as is the radiator grille and headlight surrounds.
No being able to get to Halfrauds paint counter I found 4 aerosol cans of gloss black Hammerite bought a couple of years ago to spray an interior handrail in the house.
I don’t gave any emery or a cup disk for my electric drill so
a) can I out Hammerite directly onto gingered metal without proration or should I use fine sandpaper
b) can I spray the plastic radiator grille with Hammerite?
c) As b) but for the head light surrounds

The grille and light surrounds are sun faded and the self tappers on bothe the lamp surrounds and radiator grille have been well lubricated with WD40 - how to prep them to get rid of the WD40 deposits?

Here is the condition of my rock sliders - due to their incredible weight I don’t want to remove them to paint them

The answers are 'yes', 'yes' and 'yes' but the results are unlikely to be brilliant, especially on the plastic parts. Plastic really needs a special primer to make a decent job of painting and Hammerite is okay...but as with all painting, preparation is everything. Darren

Run a blow lamp over black headlight surrounds, will rejuvenate them, or bubble them if your too close!

Sand blast and ppowder coat for sills Cheers

Just be careful, Hammerite ages in it’s can, it goes “bad” as I will testify to, as will AkzoNoble who sent me a refund! I don’t know why it does this, but it might be worth trying it on a hidden area first.

As for the rock sliders – I’d go with jst and sand/shot blast and powder coat – tougher and longer lasting than a rattle can.

Galvanised rock sliders and hammerite satin (but from pot of paint, not spray) have been used by me for years. That way the black is just cosmetic.

Anyone had luck with the galv spray rather than going for a full hot dip?
My Sliders are looking a bit worse for wear too.

Galv spray is ok but obviously not as hard wearing as the real thing. As I mentioned above though, to get the best out of it, preparation is everything. Darren
