Shock absorbers
On a bit of cross country this morning I heard a clunking that was unfamiliar. Upon inspection I found this:

With the other side looking like this:

Now I am wondering if its worth me getting normal bushes, poly bushes or even new shocks?? Does anyone have any recommendations of any of the above, and is this a job I could quite easily manage myself? Also there seems to be quite a few different types of bushes available so how do I know which ones I need?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

I have managed to get the nut off with the help of molegrips as the strap wouldn't work, and even then I feel like I have just done arm day in the gym Big Cry

I have just been looking at the two pics and it looks as if the side missing the bush only has one metal cup at the bottom, while the other side has a metal cup at both sides? Am I imagining that as only one cup come off the broken side??

I will order the bush, think OE will be fine, then fit that and look at changing shocks and related hardware in the future sometime.

I am hankering after Bilsteins and the Gwyn Lewis HD hardware, but thats for another day I think.

Don’t forget to buy the turret retaining washer thingy, because if you don’t it’s is guaranteed to snap at least one bolt trying to get the nuts off.

Some companies do a heavy duty version.

If you do buy them then I can guarantee you won’t snap a single bolt....Sod’s law 101 Rolling with laughter

Yeah I was looking at new shocks (Bilstein B6 hopefully), Gwyn Lewis HD std height turrets, galvanised spring seats, front HD turret securing rings and rear HD spring retainers.

Have I missed anything out??

At the bottom of the shock you should have two rubber bushes and four washers, two of the washers have a lip that locates into the hole on the mount. These are the inner pair. The other ones go on the ‘outside’ of the arrangement, i.e. one against the shock body and one under the nut.

Looks like the bush has worn and the lower of the two inner washers has taken a pounding against the axle mount and broken then fallen out. A pair of new bushes plus four new washers will see you right.

D44 Turrets and HD rings on mine and OE dampers, bushes and springs with castellated spring isolators top and bottom front and back. Other than the D44 Turrets and rings all parts are Genuine. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

Are the OE dampers really as good as Bilsteins then? What were your reasons for changing back?
