90 hardtop external cage
Looking for a 90 hard top cage, who has what and what's recommended? Has bulkhead fitted. Smooth roof.

Looking at safety devices which bolt to chassis and most parts then bolt together, I think I would prefer cleaner lines of weld together above bodywork and bolt to chassis.

Also idealy after some rear roof corner protection. Cheers

I used to have a SD full external on a 90 I built. bolt together. Fitted well although the powder coating wasn't the best (this is going back 20 odd years though, things might have changed since)

I'll dig out some pictures

Safety Devices on mine.

A few good reasons as to why,

They were the only company that could tell me the height of the cage above the roof, the 90 lives in my garage over night.

The cage is the closest fitting to the body work and looks the cleanest. Some manufacturers you can put your arm in between the cage and the bodywork. If you green lane you don’t want a branch getting jammed in there.

You can fit the cage over the course of a few weekends if doing it yourself, with an extra pair of hands. The reason is the lower, underbody, sections can be mounted first and SD supply a ‘top cap’ to help bonding the silkaflex. This means you can do the front wings one weekend, the body tub the next and then take the caps offs to mount the over body cage.

Basically, you don’t have to rush if the weather turns.

Finally, SD supply cages via the Terrafirma stockist. At the time I ordered mine through Kieth Gotts on the Monday and collected it on the Thursday.

My Performance and Protection cage took a number of weeks to arrive, only to find they sent me the above door arms for a 90. I had to send mine back and then wait for the 90 owner to return theirs before PP sent them back to me.

Easy to fit, but annoying.

Hope that helps you.
Thumbs Up

+1 for SD for close fitting.

They actually fitted mine at their base a few years back, still using the photos I notice...

+1 SD cage although full external/internal. Agree with the powder coating issue. The body mounts have all shed their coating on mine. Not at all impressed with that aspect, but the cage itself is brilliant. Love how close it sits to the body work. The roof rack mounting system is A1 as is the increased payload.

Thankfully SD have now started producing their own RAI (looks awfully similar to the one fitted to Miffy Rolling Eyes ) that mounts the their cage. About time... I had to go to PandP for the intake and fabricate a mounting system between PandP and SD components... The only benefit over the SD version IMHO is the inclusion of rubber bushings (300tdi air filter box mounts) to allow the RAI and cage to flex a little. But I become side-tracked Rolling Eyes
