there are a few things that are different such as the temp sender
plenty of folk can rewrite them to defender spec as these ecu get older more are failing without warning ive had 2 fail last yr on a 2000 td5 and a 2004 td5. neither good be reapired. im running a nnn disco one on my td5 that was reworked a mapper in stockport |

Yes, you could do well by carrying a spare ECU.
You'd do even better to test it before putting it in the spares box and coding your injectors to it etc. Insta: @thebenjordan4x4 |

Thats good, i'll keep an eye out for a cheap one and test it if i do get one.
I think i just need to make sure its from a manual disco right? |

It will run yes, but in standard disco format, the temp guage works back to front, and the throttle response is VERY sensitive... horribly so, but at least it'll get you home.

For emergency use, any TD5 ecu will work. Just need IMO pairing made. If you set injector codes, it will be better. With IMO paired, you just plce the ecu in car, no need fo diagnostics.
Also need correct gas pedal set, in case of 3 ways set in ecu and 2 ways placed in car, it will only idle. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |

Great thanks for the replies, i’ll keep an eye out for a cheap one. Of course only for energency use. When I got my replacement for my faulty one it was from a disco and I did drive it with the disco map on for a little while and it did kangaroo at low revs but I have since put the def fuel map onto it now.
I just want a cheap spare one to have in the car for if the worst does happen when I’m up a mountain somewhere but hopefully i’ll never need it. |
