Air in Fuel After Filter Change
I took the opportunity of all this spare time to service my Td5 last week. As part of that I changed the fuel filter and ran the obligatory fuel bleed. I’ve only driven it twice since and each time the pump has made the telltale gurgle of there being a bit of air. I started it a short while ago, having not moved it for a few days, and it was not happy when it started. It was really lumpy so I shut it off. Started it up again straight away and it was fine.

Is there just a tiny bit of air left that’ll work it’s way out or has something failed such as the filter housing? There are no obvious signs of any diesel leaks.

if you didnt pre-fill the new filter with diesel it will take a little while to bleed all the air out of the filter.

I never bother pre-filling the new one to be honest. I normally find two bleed cycles and about an hour of driving and any sign of air will have gone.

No I didn't pre-fill the filter. I was more concerned with the lake of diesel I'd created on the drive Whistle
I only did one purge cycle as well so there probably was a fair bit of air left in the system.

I'll keep an eye on it but hopefully it's all good now that I've just driven it into Ciren and back. Charlie

I don't pre-fill the filter either. Just turn on the ignition make sure the pump whirls away and then for a brew and come back when its stopped,. Start up and done. No issues. 1999 Defender TD5 110

You did check that the central washer hadn't become stuck to the housing? It's possible to accidentally double them up and then you don't get a great seal.

Just driven to the village shop and all is now fine. Must have just been air leftover in the system. Lesson learned, purge it twice. Thumbs Up Charlie
