Painting a screen frame
My windscreen frame needs a tidy up. I’ve painted solid colours before but never a metallic with a clear coat. What am I looking at to get it right
Etch?
Prime?
Colour?
Clear?
This will be done at home so probably cellulose

Any recommendations or advice greatly appreciated.

Seems to be a lot of us having a go at painting at the minute. I’m using single pack acrylic paints as Im spraying indoors with a gas rated respirator. 2k is much more injurious to your health and you need an air fed mask for proper protection. Do some reading and weigh up the risk. 2k gives tougher results and drying times are quicker.

So far I’ve got decent results with Tetrosyl primers. Colour coat and laquer I got from paints4u.com, you gave some good advice via email. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I am going to paint mine as soon as the weather improves.
Primer and santorini black on top.
I am going to clean it with a hand held gun and pink stones.
I'm hopping it will work. the paint is very good I've used on the door hinges.
I am going to do it outside.

I take it you aren’t taking it back to bare metal? In this case, do you need to prime again or just key up the surface? Reason I ask is that I’m planning on doing my window blocks!

To get a perfect finish some sections will need taking back. Even a skim of filler to loose the corroded surface.

Window blocks are easy, but take back to bare metal. Etch prime, base coat and lacquer.
If they are badly damaged, then much easier to replace - originals are only about £12 in bare metal.

Epoxy primers are worth looking at especially the 2 pack ones (they are available in aerosol now) they seal out oxygen and the 2 pack ones contain zinc phosphate, which in its self is a good corrosion inhibitor.

Be sure to follow the instructions.

Epoxy primers are also a requirement of most manufacturers (including Land Rover) for warranty repairs.
