Personally I'd fit Ashcroft ATBs front and rear, with HD CVs in the front, and HD drive members. In the back I'd go for one-piece halfshafts. If this is too much, then at the very least I would make sure that I had a four-gear diff in the front axle, not a two-gear diff as fitted to many 2.4s, the two-gear diff will fail, you just can't tell when. (The main reason for the ATBs is that they are so much stronger - and cheaper - than standard LR diffs. They also offer much better traction).
I would also inspect the output adaptor shaft before setting off, and if it needs replacing either fit a standard one well-greased (with moly grease) or an Ashcroft upgrade. I would then still carry a spare and the tools to fit it. I would also probably fit a new clutch before setting off. I would carry at least one and probably two Volume Control Valves, and a spare fuel filter head. |
