Similar on mine, think it's fairly common. Didn't get any worse over three years without attention.

Mines been repainted twice along the seam as the paint had cracked. Doesn't look like it's going to last much longer again so may need to go back a third time before the warranty runs out.

Yep , only had it 3 months and it has already been in once for this. I was looking the other day and it looks/feels very thin in the middle aswell , looks like the primer is peeking through however on each end of the gutter it is so thick it is spongy. Well one more thing to add to the list. 2011 Defender XS 110 Station Wagon - Rejected

Mine is the same. First noted August last year on both sides near A pillar. Dealer supposedly photographed it for LRA for a warranty claim, but conveniently "lost" the images. Back at dealer yesterday to have photos done again during service / recall - will see whether LRA honour warranty claim. Fortunately, it ain't got any worse in the nearly twelve months of waiting....

In for the third time for this problem on Monday. Paint does not want to adhere to the sealant in the gutter.

Did it the first time 4 months after delivery under warranty. Maybe will paint it again now with the service. But I think it will be the same after several moths and I will quit caring.

Yes mine is the same above the drivers door (hairline can't see it in pic very well!). I can't tell on mine but looking at Defender75 pictures it appears that its the sealant that is cracking causing the paint to split. If this is the case there is little point taking it into the dealers to be sprayed over again as it will just crack again shortly after.
If mine gets worse I'll run a line of decent sealant within the gutter. I suppose it could be painted over but I'm not worried, you can't see it and it's better to keep an eye on what it's doing. Whatever they used back in the eighties was good stuff - rock hard but flexible if you see what I mean, I can't dig it out with a screwdriver! This is a spare Series 3 safari top I have. Rivetted not punched as in todays roof and I wish i could find out what the sealant was! Another useless picture, Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

If you go to the dealers - they can sort the gutters out, looking at my records - attempt no 3 where they stripped out the gutters, resealed (the problem is they dont put enough in) and repainted.
The problem of paint spread to a different area of the roof then, I have a feeling there is something up with the roof flexing - as the new roof was fine, i bet they sprayed it properly, sealed it properly and bolted it equally properly Mike |
