I run my TD5 Disco 2 on 265/75R16 KM2s and it has (of course) a 1.2 transfer box. It isn't tuned, and it isn't over-geared, even towing up to 3.5 tonnes.
The Disco 2 TD5 was delivered in a higher tune than the Defender, though, which may account for the difference. |

Do you have auto or manual gearbox? With auto gearbox, it is OK. With manual it is a bit hard on clutch, when moving from stationary on 1st. high. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

Having considered this modification for ages it always seems to come to the same mixed conclusion! Basically it all depends on uses for a stock td5, regular dual carriageway/motorway work and not much heavy towing then yes, more local roads upto 50mph or if you tow heavy loads then stick with standard. I quite like being able to stay in 5th from 30mph.
I still cant decide myself, most of my daily uses are upto 50/60mph tops, no regular motorway use fortunately, maybe few times of year for camping trips/weekends away, however the lower revs of the 1.2 box would be nice when you do this... I guess an overdrive is the best solution but very expensive and adds complexity. |
