What plans? For the 6x6?

Well it got MOTd, engine is gutless so there may be a 6.2 or 6.5 (possibly with turbos) V8 diesel installed in the near future.

There are a pair of 60kN hydraulic rams winging their way towards me as well...

Fix various leaks, clean back chassis and protect (probably galv it).

In the long future different bodies for the back. Ed

I have to make lots of one off prototypes for work so having it operational will be handy. Bought it a little over a year ago but snapping crank number, moving house, quitting job meant it stayed in my parents barn until now.

Just need to sort out a power source for it now. My phase converter doesn't output a neutral so thinking of just using a generator to get the 3 phase. It's looks to be all original power feeds and suds pumps etc so converting to run off a VFD will be a lot of rewiring. Ed

I've just converted mine (an early round-ram machine with a 1J head) back from a single-phase motor to the original three-phase using a Seimens VFD, and to be honest wish I'd done it years ago, it is so much simpler in every respect. I imagine that yours, like mine, has a 3-ph suds pump in the base of the column; I pondered what was best to do about this for some time (a second VFD is a fairly pricey solution) and in the end decided to abandon the built-in pump and go for an modern external single-phase system (which I haven't bought yet). The main advantages that I see are (1) it's single phase and completely independent of the spindle motor, (2) it is an order of magnitude easier to clean, and (3) since it holds less it doesn't require a mortgage to fill with fluid!

One of the Covid projects I have just finished is a full overhaul of the head, which was interesting (lots of beautiful machining in a small space), and since I can't reassemble the machine yet (I am in Dorset with the head but the rest is in in Devon) I am now turning my attention to a refresh of my Bridgeport 12" rotary table.

I worry that they'll find a vaccine before I finish all these projects!

Perhaps we should have a "show us your machine tools" thread!

It's a possibility, I need to have a proper dig around the wiring but from a little bit of research most of the contactors etc., might be an issue on this one for the power feeds.

I've also got three 3-phase pillar drills that I acquired although they can be individually run off the phase converter. I've been offered (perhaps free, not quite sure Shocked) a shaper, larger lathe (by larger I mean more like 6ft between centres) and another mill. Not sure if they're 3-phase or not, I know the chap has a 3-phase genny at his place to run the bandsaw and punch (the bandsaw will take something like 4ft square in it). So it might be nicer long term to have a proper 3 phase supply rather than converting everything to single phase, considering the supply isn't the best here and I've got a massive house hung off it as well.

I did see some (supposedly) 26kVA 3-phase diesel gennies for £800 on Farcebook, not sure I believe the pictures though because although rated for ~20A output the labelling on the front says max 5A for each of the two sockets. Doesn't add up if you want to pull the 26kVA out of one socket. Ed

It does sounds as though you need a proper 3-phase supply.

My BP is "old-school" enough not to have power feeds so I had overlooked them, I'm afraid. One day I may upgrade to a more modern machine, but it hsa always done what I need. (I do have the good fortune to have access to a heritage railway's machine shop, which is better equipped than mine will ever be)!

It would be simpler - then it's just plug and play for any subsequent tools as well. Easy enough to claim the VAT back on the diesel as well. Nearest 3 phase lines are a long way away from here so would be prohibitive getting grid 3 phase installed.

Here's a piccy of the thing fully assembled - there was also a load of tooling that came with it including all the necessary bits to convert it into a horizontal mill:

It's actually a miniature workshop Whistle

Glove is on an engine crane just in front of me. This temporary workshop is probably 4x7 metres or so? Haven't actually measured it. The one that's being renovated at the moment and where everything is ultimately going to end up is 5.5x11m and two storey. Ed

Nice to see it all together. Looks like a 1J head like mine, but you get the extra angle of tilt that I don't get with the round ram.

Actually managed to compress the suspension a fair bit this week to the point we stopped loading it as it was getting close to running tyres on the bed.

At a rough guess 100 cubic feet of damp hardcore and mud so probably around the 4.5t mark on the back of it. Bow down Only had to go 20ft though.

Very handy for collecting supplies, only a small 6m 18" twin wall pipe (not cheap though)

Only bought it because it was going to be useful.

It would be nice if the cab was another foot(ish) longer just for a bit of extra leg room / storage behind the seats but the bed is about the perfect size and actually she's not that big (about 18" longer than the 110 overall). Despite the issues with traction / articulation on a 6x6 chassis it feels a surprisingly well thought out machine, the bed height is perfect as a work bench for me at 5'9, big enough to take 8x4 sheets flat in the bed and not excessively large.

Just about (read overhangs slightly) in a standard parking bay but not obnoxiously so. The 2t payload is a massive bonus because it means you can actually load up the back properly and not worry about being overweight.

Amazingly (I need to measure it) but it has a better circle than my father's Shogun which is truly dismal. I'd compare it (with scrubbing the tyres) to a standard 110 before the lock stops have been adjusted. Mine is not a fair comparison since riding on Zu's it can out-turn standard 90s. Ed

Laughing stock should be churning out about 260hp and 280lbft. Supposedly squirting it can get closer to 400 on both counts and should that not be enough then there are turbo, twin turbo and superchargers available... Whistle

Now must refrain from putting this engine into the 110... I can always get another one... Ed
