Once you get the starter off it’s really easy to repair. I was lucky, the difficult nut hadn’t been replaced!
Is it worth trying to repair it on the vehicle?

First time on Disco2 I was not able to remove the top nut, so I have repaired in on car. Not goot, but OK for next 4 years. Later, during clutch swap, I had to remove the starter, and I had to buy 3/8" nut set, because 1/2" was too big. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
