Puma / LT230 - Relocating hi/lo gearstick
Ive got an upcoming engine and auto gearbox conversion and am looking at making a new cubby box that'll extend up to the dash and surround the auto shift mechanism. Ive been looking at a lot of photos online and like the look of how its been done on the new 70th anniversary edition. The hi/lo shifter is moved over to the left hand side of the transmission tunnela, does anyone know how thins is done and how i could do it? Thanks

Hi I'm guessing a strategically located bracket and re arranged linkage would work, I'm sure if you didn't want to do it a decent engineering workshop would be able to assist with this Thumbs Up cheers Paul

I was going to say electronics as they should have kept the Magnr Steyr transfer box but then that's on the wrong side. But looking the picture below they've simply made an adapter plate to the LT230 and then left the selector lever exposed which implies bog standard linkages.

I've been contemplating an air-operated centre-diff lock because I'm fed up of adjusting the linkages so that might be one way, do away with the linkages entirely and use some little air rams (the ones I picked up were about £1.50 from eBay). Still to find the time for the project though and I've already got on-board air for my front and rear diffs. Ed

You could go down the Disco2 route and fit a remote, cable-operated lever. Genuine D2 housings with Hi-Lo plus difflock are exceptionally hard to find but aftermarket ones are easy to obtain. On the D2 the lever is body mounted, and I imagine the 70th is the same.

Have a search for ‘Blackbird Industries’ and speak to Mike Brown...

... I think you’ll find he knows an awful lot about the Works V8 Whistle etc and would be able to reverse engineer something suitable for you...
