It's great out on the areas. I pop up there quite often, usually mid week as there's hardly any idiots out there (weekends it's full of all the a**holes carving it up on KTM's or knackered disco 1's)
Are you local to the area? |

I can be free for a trip mid week with some planning. Let me know if you get a date for a day out on The Plain.

I’ve been promising a non defender-owning friend a trip up to the plain at some point, so I’d potentially be up for a midweek jaunt depending on times 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2

Make sure you don't stray into areas you shouldn't

One of 'the' most scary experiences I have had was on the Plain. An official AWDC event probably 25 years ago, My brother and I in a 90 along with a few others met head on about half a dozen fast moving Tanks coming back to base. To this day I have no idea how this was allowed to happen but sitting in a very small vehicle thinking have they seen me was a sobering moment 2010 XS USW

I’ve had similar experiences while working officially on woodland plots near Imber. A challenger 2 heading for you at full tilt is pretty scary!

Salisbury Plain features in this 'video' where we were chased by a tank and told to stop watching his exercise by being so near the action. Quite frightening seeing a Warrier coming towards one at speed. Starts at 22 seconds:

Where you were parked is on a PRoW, so I hope you told the commander to jog on..

How does one win an argument against a tank commander convinced that they're correct?

With great difficulty, I imagine. Over the years I have met a great many junior officers who are both unusually dim and supremely arrogant. I have also met many who are not, but you tend to remember the remarkable ones.
