I need to obtain a radiator for my Rover v8 project, and see that Allisport do one with an oil cooler built in:
https://www.allisport.com/shop/performance...hermostat/ Assuming this is intended to be used with a engine oil, and not for automatic transmission cooling, would you think this was a good idea for the Rover v8, or not? I would like to maximise my cooling potential, both offroad and when cruising along at motorway speeds. It looks like you can get a sandwich plate which sits between the oil filter housing and engine, where you can get a feed off to go to an oil cooler. My concerns are: (a) Will the oil filter still fit? From memory when I took the original 3.5 out, the filter looked quite close to the front chassis. (b) Is it just another point of failure waiting to happen, eg. another leak point or more catastrophic failure point? The engine which is going in is a 4.8 litre fuel injected unit from ACR, so has the potential to generate quite a lot more heat than the original 3.5. Cheers! Chris. 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

I just used an original radiator from a Land Rover 2.5TD which has the cooler built in. i think they are quite a neat installation as you get some of the benefits of an oil-to-water and an oil-to-air cooler without any packaging issues.
You will want to make sure you have a thermostat on the oil cooler supply pipes from the pump. My serpentine engine had one from new as the discovery also used a cooler built into the radiator. Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

yes def worth doing. those Allisport V8 rads really do shift some heat, my advice is get one with the twin fans and shrouded. Cheers

The Defender 50th cools the oil in the radiator.
"The V8i engine uses a pressurised cooling system and cross flow radiator which is supplied from a separate expansion tank. The coolant radiator also incorporates a section at the side for cooling the engine oil. The transmission fluid cooler is mounted below the radiator." Not cheap though https://www.allisport.com/shop/performance...-nas-spec/ |

My old 3.9 EFI in a 110, I fitted a turboD radiator. Just had to change the oil pipe unions as the TD thread was different to the V8.
Apart from that it bolted right up. But..... the "cooling" bit of the TD rad is just a pipe going in and out, from top to bottom (or bottom to top), nothing mega or special. but it worked fine with mine. and I used to give it some stick too... then tranferred the whole drivetrain into a 90, and gave it more stick.... |
